News at First Baptist Church

Heritage Sunday
Dr. Marvin McMickle, President
of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, was the keynote preacher for our 218th annual Heritage Sunday. He challenged historic First Baptist Church to appreciate our past, but to focus our promising present and faith-filled future with compassionate determination. Dr McMickle answered Rev. Smith's contemporary questions on hot-button issues following a delicious ham dinner.

Thanks to Fred and Linda Cazer for ham preparations.

Youth Group Activities
We have had an active youth group this fall, with youth from our church and the community participating in several events: CROP WALK, the Birthday Bag Project for the Hamilton Food Cupboard, and fun meetings at the church. Watch the calendar for upcoming youth group events.

Congratulations to our Organist
Chris Warren and our grand organ were highlighted in the AGO (American Guild of Organists) November issue of  "The American Organist" magazine. Also, the Annual Autumn Organ Recital organized by Chris was a delightful success with over 80 attendees. Robert Kerner of Kerner and Merchant was the guest organist.

Boynton Pro Audio System Installed
Come to church to hear our new sound system. You will be pleasantly surprised. Boynton Pro Engineer guarantees improved listening pleasure from every seat in the sanctuary. Boynton is the best experienced professional audio system installer in Central NYS. Special thanks to all who made this project possible.

Vacation Bible School

"A Wilderness Escape -- Where God Guides and Provides"  Children K through 5th Grade enjoyed a magical learning experience. Moses told stories of the Old Testament, costumed guides brought the VBS'ers to each learning site, music and singing were a joy! Children participated in a mission project to bring clean water to families in India.

Friday ISF Dinners
The International Student Fellowship Dinners started again on Friday, September 12. Sixty students, teaching interns and fellows from Colgate and over twenty members and friends of First Baptist Church came for food and fellowship. It was an amazing time! See you this Friday!

Singing songs of praise, the Children's Choir and two guest voices filled the sanctuary on Children's Sunday.

Children and costumed guides learn the praise music of the day at Wilderness Adventure Vacation Bible School. It didn't take long before everyone was joyfully participating.

In the mission tent, children and the guides learned how difficult it is to get clean water in other countries.

The talented string trio also performed on Children's Sunday.

'Moses' told stories of crossing the Red Sea, and God's guidance.

The Annual Yard Sale at First Baptist Church always brings out shoppers looking for amazing bargains.

A few of the smiling faces at the 2013-14 Colgate International Student Dinner. Dinners are held every Friday at 5:30.
